Nearly 80 percent of sexual assaults go unreported. In an effort to reach out to women who have been raped, Miss World Linor Abargil tells her story through a documentary film titled Brave Miss World.

Illinois State University will hold a screening of the film at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in the Center for the Visual Arts as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. A panel conversation will immediately follow the screening and discuss campus and community resources. The event is free and open to the public.

Brave Miss World tells the story of Miss Israel, Linor Abargil, who was abducted, stabbed, and raped in Milan, Italy, at age 18. She had to represent her country in the Miss World competition only six weeks later. When she was crowned the winner, she vowed to do something about sexual assault. This film follows her crusade to fight for justice and break the silence.

GASP (Graduate Association of School Psychology) and Illinois State University Counseling Services Center are co-sponsoring the event. Additional sponsors include YWCA, School of Social Work, Women’s and Gender Studies and Diversity Task Force of Graduate Students in Psychology.
