The Washington Post ranked University High School (U-High) 56th in the state of Illinois and Niche.com ranked the school 55th in the nation, during 2014. The scores included the school’s highest-ever index ranking by The Washington Post, and marked the fourth consecutive year U-High has been identified by the publication as a top institution. In addition to its high national ranking, Niche.com identified U-High as the 13th best in Illinois.

The Washington Post high school index rating is determined by dividing the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests administered in a given year by the size of a school’s graduating class. U-High offers 10 advanced placement classes, and sponsors independent studies for additional advanced placement classes. The school typically gives over 200 advanced placement tests each year.

Niche.com’s comprehensive approach to school rankings involves surveying current students, parents and alumni of high schools throughout the nation. Its most recent report was drawn from a pool of 4,625,227 survey responses. Niche.com requested feedback in 10 categories including: academics, administration and policies, educational outcomes, extracurricular sports and activities, food, health and safety, resources and facilities, sports and fitness, student culture and diversity and teachers.

The U-High administration is proud to collaborate with a community of students, parents, teachers, aspiring educators, and the entire College of Education to help students excel in a highly rigorous curriculum.
