Engage Students through Emotion
Monday, August 3 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Most literature on student engagement focuses on cognitive techniques to encourage student learning. This workshop will address another key dimension: student emotion. By focusing on the emotions of students, you will develop verbal scripts and strategies to lead disengaged students toward productive learning. Facilitator: Christopher Gjesfjeld.

Your Classroom Technology Policy
Thursday, August 6 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Research shows that students respond better when instructors set clear guidelines about the use of mobile technology—laptops, tablets, and smartphones—in the classroom. But you don’t have to resign yourself to teaching in spite of digital distractions. In this workshop, investigate students’ biases about technology in the classroom and use recent studies on students’ attitudes to help you craft your own classroom technology policy. Discover ways to collaborate with students at the start of the semester to create agreement over what is, and is not, the appropriate use of technology in your classroom.

If you need a special accommodation to fully participate in an event, please contact the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology’s main desk at (309) 438-2542.
