Illinois State University students and alumni are invited to the Career Center’s first ever Accounting Career Fair on Friday, September 11, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Brown Ballroom at the Bone Student Center.

The Accounting Career Fair connects recruiters hiring for accounting positions only with those who are majoring in accounting and seeking an accounting position.

“The Accounting Career Fair provides an invaluable opportunity for students and alumni to network with accountants, showcase their experiences and skill sets, and explore opportunities. All students majoring in accountancy and related fields from freshmen to seniors will greatly benefit from attending this fair,” said Career Center Career Advisor Mark Fauble.

Fair preparation
To help students prepare, the Career Center is hosting InstaCareer, a career preparation session, on September 10 from 4-7 p.m. in the Bone Student Center. Participants will rotate through various stations to learn how to introduce themselves to employers, how to make a good first impression, dress appropriately, and how to research and follow-up with employers after career events. Students can also participate in optional resume reviews and practice interviews with recruiters and other career experts.

Students can also prepare for the fair by:

• Reviewing the list of employers registered for the fair on the Career Center website to identify who they want to visit and to learn more about their companies.
• Visiting the Career Resource Guide for helpful tips on how to prepare for the fair, how to develop a 30-second pitch to employers, and to review sample interview questions.
• Watching the Career Center’s career fair video.
• Using InterviewStream, an online tool to practice interviewing from one’s own computer, and selecting questions customized to a particular position or industry.

Students attending the fairs need to bring their Redbird ID card and plenty of copies of their resume, and are encouraged to dress for an interview. Student can also order free business cards to distribute to employers and can print out their resume on free resume paper through the Career Center.

Employers
Employers seeking candidates to fill their accounting positions with talented Redbirds must register. Registration is available on the Career Center website.
