Today marks the beginning of the 159th Illinois State school year, and many of the historical artifacts connected to the University remain remarkably in-tact. The College of Education shared a  story in 2012 about an Illinois State and University Laboratory School family who bought and restored the home of the late Charles DeGarmo while staying as true to the time period of the home as possible. Recently, we caught up with the homeowners to snap a few photos of some of their latest projects and unique touches.

DeGarmo was one of Illinois State’s first alums, the principal of Thomas Metcalf School, and a faculty member at the University. The College of Education and Department of Psychology’s building (DeGarmo Hall) was built and named in his honor in 1973. His former home is approximately 128 years old!
