Illinois State University is growing the next generation of renewable energy leaders.

One of them is Kadi Ilves, a senior renewable energy major at Illinois State. The international student from Estonia is currently doing an internship with Illinois State’s Office of Sustainability.

ISU’s program was the first interdisciplinary renewable energy major in the U.S., addressing the social, economic, and technical issues that graduates will encounter in this emerging field. So as Ilves works with the Office of Sustainability to develop a solar power system for campus, she’s also equipped to research potential ways to pay for the project.

Ilves is also a member of the Renewable Energy Society, a registered student organization.

“I love being a renewable energy major at ISU,” she said. “The classes are great, there are a lot of opportunities for internships, and there are a lot of ways to get involved outside the classroom.”
