Prezi
Monday, October 5 • 9 to 11 a.m.

Explore the fundamentals of this web-based alternative to PowerPoint. Prezi allows users to create stunning, animated presentations. Learn how to use Prezi’s powerful tools to lead your audience visually, step-by-step, through a narrative. This workshop is designed for both instructors who wish to use Prezi in the classroom and staff members who want to use Prezi for meetings and business presentations.

 

OneDrive and Office 365 for Mobile
Monday, October 5 • 1 to 4 p.m.

Take your projects on the go using Microsoft Office apps for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices. Premium features found in these apps are now available to Illinois State faculty and staff for free as part of the Office 365 software suite. This workshop will get you started working with the mobile versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. You will also explore OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud-based storage, also free for members of the campus community. Learn how to share documents through OneDrive and discuss how this service within the boundaries of Illinois State data security policies and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Bring your smartphone or tablet with you to get the most out of this workshop. Registration is required.

Photoshop CS6: Part 2

Continuing from Photoshop CS6: Part 1, we will take a look at some of the most useful tools and techniques in Photoshop. Learn better ways to make selections, work with layers, and other subjects. There is no prerequisite, so join us even if you miss Part 1. Registration is required.

Teaching Excellence: Active Learning for Large Classes

Anyone who has taught a large lecture class knows it can be a challenge—and sometimes, exasperating. Get ideas for enhancing lectures and making them more interactive. Explore the issues that are unique to teaching large classes, such as how to build rapport and encourage student participation. Facilitator: Bill Shields, Geography-Geology. No registration is necessary.

Early-Career Faculty Development Circle

Thursday, October 8 • 12 to 1 p.m.

This development circle offers a combination of professional development and peer support to faculty members in their first three years of service at Illinois State. Topics are based on chapters in the award-winning book What the Best College Teachers Do (Harvard UP, 2004) by Ken Bain. Participants will receive a copy of the book and an executive summary of each chapter.

Meetings are on select Wednesdays or Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. Join us either day. Attend as many as you can during the semester, but don’t worry if you can’t attend all. No registration is necessary.

Introduction to ReggieNet Part 1
Wednesday, October 7 • 1 to 4 p.m.

Get a walk-through of the ReggieNet interface and the basics of organizing your particular courses. Learn how to organize and display student grades in Gradebook. Communicate with students through Announcements, Course Mail, and Email Tool. Add content to your course site using Syllabus, and Resources and Materials. Note: We strongly encourage you to also attend Introduction to ReggieNet-Part 2, which covers other important tools. Registration is required.

OneNote: Level 1
Thursday, October 8 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Transform how you take and share notes with Microsoft OneNote. Unlike a word processor, OneNote allows you to easily include images, videos, and audio clips anywhere on the page. Organize information into virtual notebooks that can be shared across all your devices and with others. This workshop shows you the basics features of OneNote, how to navigate the interface, and how to synchronize OneNote across mobile devices. Registration is required.

Illustrator CS6: Part 1
Thursday, October 8 • 1 to 4 p.m.

Get an introduction this vector graphics editor by Adobe Systems, including basic tools and concepts. You will learn to manipulate vector graphics (which allow you to change images without losing their original quality), make basic shapes, and save files. Registration is required.
