Photoshop CS6: Part 1
Tuesday, September 29 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Get an overview of the digital image editing program, including a walk-through of basic tools and concepts. Learn to work with raster graphics, using the Toolbox and other commands, as well as the various ways you can save your work for a website or for printing. This class finishes with a lesson on how to professionally color correct an image. Registration is required.

Explore the fundamentals of this Web-based alternative to PowerPoint. Prezi allows users to create stunning, animated presentations. Learn how to use Prezi’s powerful tools to lead your audience visually, step-by-step, through a narrative. This workshop is designed for both instructors who wish to use Prezi in the classroom and staff members who want to use Prezi for meetings and business presentations. Registration is required.

Get a brief review of the ReggieNet Gradebook in this one hour workshop. Hands-on lab time will follow the review, so you can set up your grade book for the semester. Registration is required.

Future Professors Development Circle

Challenges can facilitate processes that encourage learning. In this session, we will discuss how to avoid “undesirable difficulties” that produce a fear of failure while providing “desirable difficulties” or challenges that encourage learning.

This professional development circle helps graduate students prepare for a career teaching in the academy. Explore pedagogical issues, effective and disruptive teaching strategies, and gain confidence in your ability to teach at the college level. Share teaching tips and tricks, and get support from other future professors. All participants will receive a copy of Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by Peter Brown, Henry Roediger, and Mark McDaniel. This group is open to all graduate students currently teaching or planning to teach in the future. No registration is necessary.

Screencast-O-Matic is an inexpensive, Web-based software that allows you to record and narrate videos from your desktop. This workshop explores how to use this service to create material for a flipped, blended, or online course. Registration is required.

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric
Thursday, October 1 • 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This special workshop introduces you to the Quality Matters rubric and how to use it to ensure an online course is truly meeting the desired learning outcomes. As a service to University instructors, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology will offer this workshop free of charge to full-time tenure track and nontenure track faculty. Those who successfully complete the workshop will receive a Quality Matter certificate of completion. Seating is limited. Registration is required.

Teaching Excellence: Organize Your Teaching Portfolio
Thursday, October 1 • 2 to 3:30 p.m.

A teaching portfolio can help you reflect upon your teaching practices and accomplishments. This workshop will guide you in reflective practice and give you suggestions on what artifacts you may want to include in your portfolio. Any instructor can benefit from this type of contemplative exercise. This workshop can also help instructors preparing for promotion and tenure, a teaching award, or graduate students preparing to find a job in academic.
