Ambassador of Costa Rica Roman Macaya will highlight the first-ever International Education Week at Illinois State University. Macaya will speak at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, at the keynote luncheon. The event is free, but reservations are needed.

Macaya was sworn in as ambassador of Costa Rica to the United States on August 20, 2014, and presented his credentials to President Barack Obama on September 18, 2014. He has developed a multidisciplinary career as a scientist, businessman, advocate, politician, and academic.  Macaya has lived, studied, and worked for many years in both Costa Rica and the United States.

International Education Week, from the Office of International Studies and Programs, runs November 16-20. The week is intended to celebrate Illinois State’s pursuit of international ties and studies with lectures and events, including the annual International Gala.

All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.
