Advocate Health Care sponsored the third Mix and Mentor event for Illinois State University Mennonite College of Nursing students to connect with alumni and learn about nursing careers on November 10, at its corporate headquarters in Downers Grove.
Alumni Relations and Star Uniforms sponsored a passenger bus to transport 50 senior nursing students to the event. Executive Director of Alumni Engagement Doris Groves ’81; Assistant Dean for the Undergraduate Program Dianne Clemens; Director of Development Jenny Ward; Advocate BroMenn Endowed Professor Wendy Woith; Administrative Aide Christine Boicken, B.S. ’89; and MNAO President Jen Patton, B.S.N. ’04, also attended with MCN alumni who ranged from the classes of 1954–2015.
At the event, John Howlett, manager of talent acquisition at Advocate; Marjorie Mauer, chief nurse executive at Good Samaritan Hospital; Tom Carroll, executive vice president of human resources at RR Donnelly Corporation all spoke with the students and alumni about careers in nursing.
“We are thrilled to be able to work with Advocate Health Care to provide this event for our students,” said Clemens. “Chicago is an area where many of our students would like to pursue employment, and we are so grateful to everyone who attended and supported this event.”
More events to connect students and alumni have been scheduled for the spring. There will be an event at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal in February, and there will also be an event for students and alumni as part of MCN Nurses Week in April.
