Illinois State University senior Paiton Florey is taking advantage of every opportunity she can within the College of Business to make herself more marketable to employers.

Florey is a finance major with an insurance minor, both in the Department of Finance, Insurance, and Law. She added her minor after a enjoying an Introduction to Risk and Insurance elective course.

“A minor is a great way to diversify your experience in the College of Business, and it makes you much more marketable when looking for internships or jobs after graduating,” Florey said.

Last summer, Florey was an investment intern at State Farm Insurance, which is headquartered in nearby Bloomington. Internships are valued by firms seeking full-time employees.

The College of Business is also home to several student organizations that help prepare students for a smooth transition to the world of work and help students understand how to make a difference in things that matter most to them. Florey is part of the Gamma Iota Sigma insurance fraternity, for which she’s networked with guest speakers and traveled to conferences. Florey is also president of the Business Week Team, which organizes collegewide events each year.

“There’s really an organization for anything you want to be involved with,” she said.
