The Department of Mathematics is launching a new colloquium series.

Associate Professor of Mathematics Sunil Chebolu will deliver the first talk in the series from 3-4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, in room 401, Stevenson Hall. His talk, “Mathematics and Music,” is free and open to the public.

No specialized background in math or music will be assumed. Chebolu’s talk will approach musical theory and rhythm in a unique sense, converting mathematical theorems into beautiful melodies while bringing up historical information about both fields. See the abstract of his talk.

“We’re very pleased to offer this opportunity for people to experience some of the exciting and intriguing aspects of mathematics that you don’t always see in typical coursework,” said Chair of the Department of Mathematics George Seelinger.
