Three academic units are the 2015 recipients of the Path to Excellence Award, recognized for their exceptional commitment to improving teaching and student learning. It showcases departments whose faculty have committed the most time to professional development programs sponsored by the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology. This year, all three of the winning departments come from the College of Applied Science and Technology:
First place – the Department of Health Sciences
Second place – the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences
Third place – the Department of Technology
“Great teachers are made, not born,” says CTLT director Claire Lamonica. “This awards is one way of recognizing the teachers who value this notion. Participating in various professional development programs is one way that these teachers are working on becoming not only good, but great educators.”
The winners of the Path to Excellence Awards are calculated by the number of hours each school or department has invested in CTLT sponsored professional development programming. This number is then divided by each school or department’s number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) faculty. This year, Health Sciences committed 26.89 hours per FTE faculty member to professional development through CTLT. Family and Consumer Sciences devoted 23.6 hours and Technology dedicated 21 hours.
All three departments were recognized at the 2016 University-Wide Teaching & Learning Symposium in January.
