More than 8 out of 10 courses taught this spring use ReggieNet, Illinois State University’s customized learning management system (LMS). Instructors continue to adopt ReggieNet as a way to enhance their teaching and to better communicate with students.

“Each semester, more teachers make use of this important resource. We’re pleased to see that adoption rates on campus match national trends,” says Claire Lamonica, director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology. CTLT provides instructional support and professional development for faculty, including those who choose to use ReggieNet.

More than 83 percent of the total number of courses being offered in this spring semester have course sites published in ReggieNet, meaning instructors have made those sites available to their students. That’s a 5.4 percent increase over the percentage of published courses in spring 2015 and an increase of almost 22 percent since spring 2014.

The latest data from the EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) say that about 85 percent of faculty nationwide use some sort of learning management system in their teaching.

The extent to which ReggieNet is integrated into a particular course is entirely up to the instructor. Some take advantage of ReggieNet’s secure, online grade book. Others use it as a place for students to access course-related documents. ReggieNet also supports blogs, discussion forums, email, interactive lessons, and gives students the ability to take tests and quizzes online.

ReggieNet is based on the Sakai software system. During the winter break, ReggieNet was moved to an off-campus hosting service. It also received a significant upgrade that enhanced its capabilities, dramatically improved its stability, and made it more mobile-friendly. A detailed list of these changes can be found on CTLT’s ReggieNet support pages.

The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2016. Through a variety of workshops, consultation services, and instructional resources, CTLT supports educators in their pursuit of excellence and innovation in teaching, student learning, and the effective use of technology.
