Romeo and Juliet, a story of young love, family feuds, and untimely death, is certainly one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. Written between 1594 and 1596, this play tells of two young lovers who defy their parents’ wishes in order to follow their own hearts. Unfortunately, the feud between their two families pervades the lovers’ lives too thoroughly to be escaped.

Assistant Professor Kevin Rich, who is also the artistic director of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, directs the production. “Our production is fun and fast-paced, featuring live music and audience interaction,” says Rich. “It’s not a tragedy until the end.” School of Theatre and Dance faculty members Lori Adams and Kim Pereira join the cast to play Capulet and Friar Laurence. Illinois State alumnus Dave Krostal will play the part of Montague.
