The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is proud to announce the newest addition to Illinois State University’s audiology program, Benjamin Kirby.
Kirby received his B.A. in linguistics from the University of Santa Cruz, and his Au.D. and Ph.D. in speech and hearing science from the University of Iowa.
Kirby is currently a post-doctoral fellow in the Audibility, Perception, and Cognition Lab at Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. His research focuses on the relationship between hearing loss and general cognitive abilities such as attention and memory in children and adults. Specifically, he is interested in how these factors contribute to performance on listening tasks, speech perception, and perceived benefit from hearing aids or cochlear implants.
Kirby will be teaching Pediatric Audiology, Pediatric Aural Rehabilitation, Implantable Auditory Prostheses, and several other classes at Illinois State University.
The department is very excited for the pediatric experience that he will bring to the program.
