The Virtual Enemy: The Intersection Between Intimate Partner Abuse, Technology, and Cybercrime
Co-edited by Shelly Clevenger, assistant professor, Department of Criminal Justice Sciences (Carolina Academic Press, 2015)

Research has shown that partner abuse is a global problem. There is not much information, however, about how perpetrators use technology to terrorize their victims, through revenge porn, cyberstalking, and sextortion. In this book, experts in criminology, psychology, and sociology take an in-depth look at the relationship between intimate partner violence and cybercrime. There are also chapters discussing policing initiatives and legislative reactions to the problem.

Literature for Nonhumans
By Gabriel Gudding, associate professor, Department of English (Ahsahta Press, 2015)

Award-winning writer Gabriel Gudding uses prose poetry in his latest book to focus on the negative environmental impact of animal farming. Whereas Illinois once teemed with indigenous species, there is now, as Gudding writes, a “notable absence of nonhuman animal.” He uses this as a starting place to turn inside-out the language of everyday slaughter. The author illustrates humans’ changed relation to nonhuman animals, returning repeatedly to the legal torture of pigs explained matter-of-factly by slaughterhouse manuals of the present.

Exceptional Music Pedagogy for Children With Exceptionalities
Co-edited by Kimberly A. McCord, professor, School of Music (Oxford University Press, 2015)

This volume is a globally informed resource for effective music pedagogies. It was written for readers involved in music education, music therapy, and music in special education communities. The editors brought together an international set of teachers and researchers who in each chapter offer their own national perspectives on the implementation of legislative mandates and teacher-led creative strategies, and provide an array of pedagogical suggestions and scenarios that support teachers and communities who work with students with disabilities.

Solar Anvil
Co-created by Melissa Oresky, associate professor, School of Art (Sparrows & Wires, 2015)

Melissa Oresky and her husband, Zak Boerger, produced a multimedia project created during a two-week artist’s residency at Petrified Forest National Park. A DVD, Solar Anvil, features 10 videos of her collage-like, experimental animations. The accompanying music, which was largely improvised by Boerger using the Ace Tone Rhythm Ace drum machine and electric guitars, was taken from the companion CD, And the Rhythm Ace. In the videos, “Oresky uses the plants in the landscape like actors in a shadow play, allowing the wind and the changing angle of light to activate a series of painted backdrops.”
