Future Professors Development Circle
Tuesday, March 29 • noon to 1 p.m.

This professional development circle helps graduate students prepare for a career teaching in the academy. Explore pedagogical issues, effective and disruptive teaching strategies, and gain confidence in your ability to teach at the college level. Share teaching tips, tricks, and get support from other future professors. All participants will receive a copy of Teaching What You Don’t Know by Therese Huston. This group is open to all graduate students currently teaching or planning to teach in the future. No registration is necessary.

Knowing how to prepare to teach a new course, understanding how much to prepare, deciding how to present yourself, evaluating how to be the best instructor for the students you have, are some of the things we’ll be discussing in this last session.

Early-Career Faculty Development Circle
Wednesday, March 30 • noon to 1 p.m.
Thursday, March 31 • noon to 1 p.m.

CTLT’s Early-Career Faculty Circles offer faculty in their first, second, or third year of service at Illinois State a combination of professional development and peer support. Join us for a series of lively conversations about surviving and thriving in the academy. Topics are based on chapters from Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by Peter Brown, Henry Roediger, and Mark McDaniel. Participants will receive a copy of the book and an executive summary of each chapter. Come to either the Wednesday or Thursday session. No registration is necessary.

How a learner views his or her abilities is more important in learning than how he or she learns. In this session, we will discuss the idea of different intelligences and other learning concepts and how they might impact teaching.
