Assistant State’s Attorney for McLean County Kristin Alferink will present a talk titled “How the Media Affects the Prosecution of Cases” to the University Club (U-Club) on Friday, April 15, in the Faculty/Staff Commons at the Bone Student Center.

The event will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the talk starting at 4:30 p.m.

According to Alferink, television and movies have created an unrealistic expectation of evidence that a prosecutor will be presenting and how a trial will proceed. Sometimes called the “CSI effect,” she will explore how reporting by local media affect a criminal trial, and the effect of social media to help or hinder prosecution.

All faculty, staff, annuitants, and guests are welcome to attend. Additional information about U-Club events and activities can be found on the University Club website. Continued program support is provided by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President.
