Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology Frank Beck and Professor of Economics Hassan Mohammadi will present “Estimated Impact of Illinois State University on the McLean County Economy” at the next University Club (U-Club) on Friday, April 22, in the Faculty/Staff Commons of the Bone Student Center.

The event will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the talk starting at 4:30 p.m.

Beck and Mohammadi just completed an economic impact assessment with the University’s Stevenson Center for Economic and Community Development.

The study used 2015 data on expenditures by Illinois State University employees, non-local students, as well as its operating and capital expenditures to estimate the overall economic impact of ISU on McLean County. The $550 million in expenditures by Illinois State, its employees, and students had a multiplier of 1.5. Thus, the total impact on McLean County was $832 million. That represents 7.5 percent of the output in McLean County. The presentation will explain the source of these numbers and what they mean.

All faculty, staff, annuitants, and guests are welcome to attend. Additional information about U-Club events and activities can be found on the University Club website. Continued program support is provided by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President.
