With less than two weeks until the start of a new academic year, it’s time for faculty members to put the finishing touches on their courses.

Illinois State University’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology can help with consultations on a variety of teaching topics and special walk-in workshops during Faculty Prep Week, August 15–19.

Consultations

Need help finding creative ways to achieve your teaching goals this semester? How about help organizing your syllabus or making your course more welcoming for Illinois State’s diverse population of learners? Our coordinators are experienced in supporting teaching on a wide variety of topics. Email CTLT or call (309) 438-2542 to arrange a one-on-one appointment.

Walking-in workshops

  • Thursday, August 18 • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Clickers: Introduction

  • Wednesday, August 17 • 1–4 p.m.

Clickers are audience-response devices which allow instructors to poll a face-to-face class in real time, displaying the results, and engaging students in their learning. Responses can be recorded and incorporated into grades in ReggieNet. This workshop is designed for those who have not used clickers before at Illinois State and wish to incorporate this powerful technology into their classes starting in the fall. You will explore the latest, cloud-based polling system from TurningPoint, the official vendor for campus. Those already using clickers should instead take the alternate workshop, Clickers: Transition to TurningPoint Cloud.

Clickers: Transition to TurningPoint Cloud

  • Tuesday, August 16 • 9–11 a.m.
  • Wednesday August 17 • 1–3 p.m.
  • Friday, August 19 • 9–11 a.m.
  • Tuesday, August 23 • 1–3 p.m.

Beginning in fall 2016, TurningPoint, the official vendor for campus, will move to new, cloud-based technology and a new subscription model for students. This requires instructors to change how they deploy clickers in the classroom. This workshop is designed to specifically help experienced instructors transition to the new system in time for the start of class. Those who wish to adopt clickers for the first time in the fall should instead take the Clickers: Introduction workshop. Please note: Continuing to use the old TurningPoint software is NOT an option starting fall 2016. Faculty are strongly encouraged to attend one of these workshops. If attendance is an issue, please contact CTLT@ilstu.edu to set up a one-on-one consultation.

If you need a special accommodation to fully participate in a CTLT event or service, please contact our front desk at (309) 438-2542.
