Artist Claire Ashley and musician Joshua Patterson will stage a free public performance, titled Hot Rocks, in Uptown Normal’s Roundabout on Friday, September 9, at 6 p.m.

Five specially made inflatable sculptures, powered by student performers sealed inside, will roll out the doors of the University Galleries and transform the Roundabout into a surreal dance floor as they frolic in response to live music played by Patterson.

This performance is held in conjunction with Cawt, Taut, Hot …. Not, Ashley’s summer solo exhibition that features Day-Glo-colored pneumatic sculptures.

Cawt, Taut, Hot …. Not is on view through September 11, with a closing reception to be held September 9 from 5-7 p.m.

The exhibit, closing reception, and performance are all free and open to the public.

University Galleries is located at Uptown Station at the corner of Beaufort and Broadway. Parking is available in the parking garage directly above with the first hour free.

This performance is made possible by the Harmon Arts Grant program.
