Professor Tom Fuller from Illinois State’s Department of Health Sciences was among nearly 70 professionals to attend a major conference in France this summer focused on industrial hygiene and occupational safety.

The French Society of Occupational Hygiene (SOFHYT) and the Belgian Society for Occupational Hygiene (BSOH) held their joint meeting June 10 in Lille, France.

The all-day conference was packed with information, speeches, and presentations. In total, there were 17 different speakers on a range of topics and issues, with several additional breakout and networking sessions.

While in France, Fuller had the opportunity to visit Lille by foot. The town has a very large medieval section, which Fuller appreciated. He also had the honor of having dinner his friend and current SOFHYT President Frederique Parrot.

Fuller said the quality and information provided in the individual presentations was excellent and that the speakers, sessions, and breaks were perfectly timed throughout the day. Fuller was able to exchange ideas and make new friends with professionals from across Europe.

“It was a great conference to learn about European viewpoints and approaches to industrial hygiene and occupational safety,” Fuller said.

This conference provided Fuller with many new insights, and greatly expanded his understanding on a variety of technical topics, all of which he has been able to bring back to Illinois State.
