Professor Ali Riaz’s book, Bangladesh: A Political History Since Independence, was launched at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C., on September 20.

The launching ceremony was moderated by Michael Kugelman, senior associate of the center. William Milam, former U.S. ambassador to Bangladesh and Pakistan, provided commentary on the book.

The book provides a comprehensive overview of political and historical developments in Bangladesh since 1971. The book is published by I B Tauris (London). Riaz argues in the book that the country’s tumultuous politics of the past 45 years revolved around three issues: democracy, identity and development.
