The Department of Philosophy at Illinois State University seeks applicants for a nine-month tenure-track position at the assistant professor level. The position begins August 16, 2017. The typical course load for this position is six undergraduate courses/year (3/semester); usual non-teaching duties also apply. Possible summer opportunities may also be available.

Area of Specialization: Environmental Philosophy: Social, Political, or Moral Philosophy with a clear emphasis on issues pertaining to the Environment. Area of Competence: Environmental Ethics. A conferred Ph.D. in Philosophy is required prior to the appointment start date. Prior teaching experience required. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The department has a particular need for an individual to teach an undergraduate course in Environmental Ethics. The successful candidate will also contribute to the emerging interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program and other existing campus and community environmental initiatives. We are looking for a colleague who is committed to increasing the department’s visibility, and who is qualified to teach courses in social, political, or moral philosophy, environmental philosophy and environmental ethics.
