Please join the Illinois State Department of Philosophy for a visit with Katie Simpson ’08, M.S. ’15, on Friday, October 7, at 2:30 p.m. in 412 Stevenson Hall.

Simpson graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and Spanish literature. After leaving the University, she moved to Latin America where she served with the United States Peace Corps in Panama. For two years, she lived and worked on an island wildlife refuge, Isla Cañas, located just off of Panama’s Azuero Peninsula. She partnered with community members to establish a grass roots ecotourism enterprise dedicated to sea turtle conservation and mangrove reforestation.

In 2011 Simpson extended her service for an additional two years to work as a Peace Corps regional coordinator and Peace Corps response volunteer completing a health needs assessment for two fishing urban communities.

In 2013 Simpson returned to Illinois State as a graduate student with the Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development. During graduate school, she worked as a Peace Corps Fellow assisting the McLean County Domestic Violence Multidisciplinary Team with grant reporting and strategic planning.

In 2015 upon completing her Master of Science in politics and government, Simpson took a position with the 11th Judicial Family Violence Coordinating Council. she currently works as the city planner for the City of Bloomington and volunteers on the board of the Peace Corps Panama Alumni Group, Peace Corps Panama Friends. She is also completing a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from the University of Notre Dame.
