The Illinois State University Planetarium will present Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 16, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17. This is a single weekend event and will not be offered again.

Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope follows two students as they interact with an astronomer at a local star party.  Along the way, the students learn the history of the telescope from Galileo’s modifications to a child’s spyglass—using two small pieces of glass—to the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy. Geared to engage audiences of all ages, the show explores the wonders discovered by astronomers over the last 400 years.

After Two Small Pieces of Glass, Planetarium staff will offer a tour of the current evening sky under the Planetarium’s dome, exploring the bright stars, constellations, and planets visible from Central Illinois.

Admission to the Illinois State University Planetarium is $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and seniors, and $2 for children ages 3-4. For more information, please call the Planetarium’s Skyline at (309) 438-5007 or visit the Planetarium website.
