Derek Reed

The Department of Psychology will present a talk titled, “Big Problems and Basic Solutions via Behavioral Science,” with Derek Reed, B.S. ’04, at 2 p.m. Friday, October 7, in 551 DeGarmo Hall. Reed is the recipient of the Department of Psychology’s 2016 Alumnus of the Year—Early Career Award.

Reed is an associate professor in the Department of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas where he directs the Applied Behavioral Economics Laboratory. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Illinois State University and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in school psychology from Syracuse University. Reed’s research translates the behavioral economics of substance use disorders to novel areas of behavioral addiction, such as texting-and-driving and indoor-tanning.
