Media and communication are the main themes for workshops the week of September 12 at the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT). Narrate online presentations, create interactive lessons, and encourage discussion and deeper learning through online forums. All events are held at CTLT’s facilities at 301 South Main Street unless otherwise noted. How to Facilitate a Classroom Observation
Starts Monday, September 12 • 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Many schools and departments require faculty to be observed by their chairs, directors, and FCS members. This two-part workshop, geared toward chairs, directors, and FCS members, will examine the role observations play in personnel decisions, identify best practices in the classroom observation process, and engage in practice observations using videos from real class sessions. Participants must attend both sessions. Registration is required.

Photoshop: Introduction
Monday, September 12 • 1 to 4 p.m.

Get an overview of the digital image editing program, including a walk-through of basic tools and concepts. Learn to work navigate around raster graphics, using the tools and commands available in Photoshop, as well as the various ways you can save your work for a website or for printing. This class finishes with a lesson on how to professionally color correct an image. Registration is required.

SoftChalk Create
Tuesday, September 13 • 9 a.m. to noon

Looking for a creative, new way to engage students? SoftChalk can help! This program lets you easily create engaging, interactive web lessons. You will learn to create interactive learning games such as customizable flashcards, image labeling, matching games, crosswords, and more. SoftChalk lessons are easily imported into ReggieNet. Registration is required.

Camtasia: Level 1
Wednesday, September 14 • 9 a.m. to noon

Do you want to add your voice to a PowerPoint presentation and make it available to your students online? Learn to use Camtasia, a screen-recording program that lets you narrate PowerPoint presentations, still images, or videos. You will also learn how to upload the final product so students can access it. Registration is required.

Early-Career Faculty Development Circle

CTLT’s Early-Career Faculty Circles offer faculty in their first, second, or third year of service at Illinois State a combination of professional development and peer support. Join us for a series of lively conversations about surviving and thriving in the academy. Topics are based on chapters from Teaching What You Don’t Know by Therese Huston. Participants will receive a copy of the book and an executive summary of each chapter. Come to either the Wednesday or the Thursday session. No registration necessary.

ReggieNet: Forums
Thursday, September 15 • 1 to 4 p.m.

Maximize your ability to communicate with students through Forums. Learn how to have ReggieNet automatically create discussion groups. You’ll also see the different ways to grade discussions, including by topic or message. Prerequisite: Introduction to ReggieNet. Registration is required.
