Teacher Kathryn (Katie) Petravick earned her B.A. in Spanish from Illinois State University in 2012.
Here’s what she had to say about the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.
What did you like about the Spanish program at Illinois State?
I loved the class size. Most of my classes were smaller classes, therefore I was better able to connect with students in the class as well as get to know my professors on a personal level. I enjoyed being a part of the Spanish honor society and all of the opportunities it gave me to practice using Spanish in the Bloomington-Normal community. Because of that, not only did I feel like I belonged at ISU, but that I was also a part of the community.
How did the program prepare you for your future?
The program truly challenged me and helped me to grow as a Spanish language learner. I’m thankful for having had the opportunity to study abroad as well in Granada, Spain, while at Illinois State.
Now, I’m a Spanish teacher teaching high school Spanish, levels 1, 2, and 4. Thanks to the Spanish program at Illinois State, I am able to impart my knowledge and share my experiences with my students.
Anything else you’d like to say about the Spanish program, its classes or faculty?
I highly recommend the program to anyone interested in studying Spanish. The faculty are kind, flexible, and great to work with. You can tell that they really care about what they do, their students, and their content matter.
