The Lois Jett Historic Costume Collection (LJHCC) in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University has opened its newest exhibition, “Spread the Red,” running through January 27.

The exhibition features pieces worn and donated by Illinois State University administrators, faculty, and students, which allows the viewer to see how Illinois State and dress has changed from 1930 to 2010. The exhibition was planned and installed by LJHCC interns and seniors in the Fashion Design and Merchandising program, Corrine Norris and Torre Riscossa.

The LJHCC was created in 1962 by Lois Jett, a professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Over the years, the collection has expanded to more than 2,000 items of men’s, women’s and children’s dress and related artifacts dating from the 1840s to today.

This exhibition, located in Turner Hall, room 126, is free and is open to the campus and surrounding community. Gallery hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m.-noon, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. Other times may be scheduled by calling (309) 438-5960.
