An update from George Norris ’15, who majored in French Teacher Education in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Illinois State University:

“My first job using my foreign language was through Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF), which allows people to travel to France and be an English teacher for about a year. It was a rewarding experience because not only did you get to teach students your particular section of American culture you get a much more in-depth experience for living than study abroad. I had to go to the doctor and the post office and open a bank account. I went about my daily life like every other French citizen.

My second job is now with Square as a French customer support member. We are a financial payments company that works in America and Canada. I deal primarily with French Canadian customers. I answer questions about their account and about Square in general. I have also provided on-site training for our new French supporters and have been involved in content expansion projects for our internal resources.

Also, I hope to apply for our team that travels to locations and sets up Square sellers. We have an emerging market in Quebec and I look forward to the opportunity to travel there and get people excited about Square.”
