Anne Davis, a member of the Board of Trustees of Illinois State University, will leave the Board when her term expires January 16, 2017.

“As an ISU graduate and educator, I’ve had a successful career due in large part to the education I received at ISU,” Davis said.  “It’s been my privilege and commitment, as a trustee, to return the favor by advocating that this most valued education experience and opportunity continue for all ISU present and future students. My support and participation in implementing the Board’s goals contained in the University’s strategic plan, Educating Illinois, has been central to achieving the goals. Thanks to fellow board members, University presidents, faculty, staff, and the student body for enabling me to have a successful and fulfilling tenure as trustee.”

Davis began her service with the Board in 2005, under President Al Bowman. She was elected Board secretary in 2013. During her tenure, Davis has been a strong supporter of the University’s Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline and the STEP-UP programs. She also serves as a member of the Sponsoring Leadership of the University’s Climate Assessment Task Force. Working with three University presidents, Davis has witnessed three consecutive years of record enrollments, increased diversity on campus, and a growing civic engagement from students.

“Anne has always been one to lead by example, and we are grateful to her for the years she provided guidance and insight to the Board,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Rocky Donahue. “She will be missed.”

Governor Bruce Rauner will appoint a replacement for Davis.

A 1964 Illinois State alumna, Davis spent 35 years as a classroom teacher in Harvey, Illinois, where her instruction materials reflected the growing diversity of her students. Prior to her retirement, Davis served two terms as president of the Illinois Education Association. While president, Davis not only helped to implement multi-cultural diversity training, but also strongly advocated for positive school/community environments with adequate and equitable resources as a means of insuring effective teaching and learning in classrooms across Illinois.

“Trustee Davis has inspired students, faculty, and administrators throughout her time as a Trustee,” said University President Larry Dietz. “Her dedication to the University has been a gift to us all.”

Davis’ last meeting on the Board will be Friday, January 13.
