Hope Fine, Adam Julian, and Stacey Meyer will receive advising awards at the Founders Day celebration on February 16 in the Brown Ballroom.

Hope Fine will be honored with the Outstanding New Undergraduate Advisor Award.

The Department of Chemistry’s academic advisor, Fine earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy analysis and a master’s degree in psychology at the University of Missouri before coming to Illinois State University in July 2015. At Illinois State, Fine advises approximately 175 chemistry and biochemistry majors and 80 chemistry minors on course selection, registration, university policy, and graduation requirements. In addition, Fine is also the co-advisor of the Chemistry Club and enjoys seeing her students develop into future leaders outside of the classroom. Striving to build community in her department, Fine also helps in the planning and organization of departmental events, such as homecoming, graduation, and graduate school visits. Fine has developed new and creative departmental initiatives. These initiatives entail creating a departmental advising syllabus and reinstituting the sophomore advising transition session. Outside of academic advising, Hope strives to be an active member in the campus community serving on the A/P Council and volunteering for events such as the Human Library. Fine also helped in the planning and execution of last year’s ILACADA conference hosted by Illinois State. Fine is a proud Redbird and appreciates all of the support that her colleagues and students have given her during her transition to ISU.

Adam Julian will be honored with the Academic Advising Advocate Award.

Julian has worked full time at Illinois State since April 2009, first in the Registrar’s office, and then moving to WEB and Interactive Communications in January 2014. He earned both his undergraduate degree and master’s certificates from Illinois State as well. His duties include the maintenance and active development of most websites on campus. Some of the most notable projects include the Course Finder website, Course Permit request form, and the digitization of simple business processes.

Julian’s current role as a web developer allows him to work with many different areas on campus. In all that he does, he looks for ways to best benefit students, and takes great pride in seeing projects he’s worked on positively impact everyone who uses Illinois State websites.

Stacey Meyer will be honored with the Herb Sanders Award for Outstanding Academic Advisement.

Meyer began her role as an academic advisor in the College of Business in April 2010. She completed a bachelor’s degree in human resource management at Millikin University and a master’s degree in college student personnel administration at Illinois State. Before coming to Illinois State, she spent five years in recruitment at the community college level. Now the coordinator of academic advisement in the College of Business, she not only advises business majors but also takes on several administrative responsibilities.

Meyer has a passion for making Illinois State a better place, not only for students but also for the advising community. She has proven herself to be a leader through her involvement in the Academic Advising Council, the Professional Development and Training subcommittee, and the Illinois Academic Advising Association 2016 Conference Planning Committee. She is supportive of her colleagues and is eager to lend a helping hand.
