The College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) at Illinois State University is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year! This series, CAST 50×50, is designed to highlight 50 faculty, staff, students, alumni, and organizations within CAST that make the college special. These notable people will tell you that every day in CAST is a great day to be a Redbird!

Another unique part of CAST is our students who represent us on the court and in the field. #CAST50 is excited to start off Monday morning with Redbird football player and information systems major Kyle Harbour!

What is your major and minor, and what year are you at ISU?

My major is information systems, and my minor is business administration. I am currently a senior and will be graduating in May.

Since you are a student-athlete, can you tell us about your daily routine?

Well, in my last season playing football, a typical day would be composed of waking up around 7:15 a.m. to work out. Following my workout, I would eat breakfast and head over to class for the morning. Occasionally, I managed to get a nap in before my next class at 2:00 p.m. Following my afternoon class, I would head back to the locker room to get ready for practice. Some nights, once practice was over, I would have to head back to campus for a night class that started at 6:30 p.m. This schedule, in various formats, would continue throughout the week.

Other than playing football, do you have any special talents or hobbies?

I cannot say I have any secret or special talents outside of being athletic, but a hobby of mine is traveling. It is nothing for me to hop in the car and take a road trip or flight somewhere on an off day!

Your team members are asked to describe you, what do you think they say?

If my teammates were to describe me, they would call me a goofball, but also a big brother. I looked out for all of my teammates and made sure they were always on the right path.

What is your favorite thing about being an information systems major?

My favorite thing about being an information systems major is that I can build upon the skills and knowledge I have acquired over the previous four years and apply that in my future career. I love to help others, and I believe everything I have learned here at ISU will provide me with the capabilities to do so. Ultimately, I aspire to be a senior business analyst.
