Over the course of this spring semester, Normal Fire Department personnel will be periodically visiting Illinois State University to make sure they are familiar with the layouts and safety equipment in classrooms and office buildings.

These visits are being made so that firefighters know the location of stairwells, standpipes, fire suppression systems, alarm panels, areas of rescue assistance, and other building details they would need to know in an emergency situation. Fire department personnel will also conduct training within campus residence halls during the summer, to ensure they are familiar with the interior of those buildings.

These ongoing familiarization visits and cooperative training events are part of the partnership between Illinois State and the Normal Fire Department to ensure campus safety and security.
