Graduates of Illinois State University Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) achieved a 94 percent pass rate on the national nursing licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) for 2016 for Baccalaureate Degree state schools in Illinois. The national and the state of Illinois pass rates are both 85 percent.

MCN graduates have exceeded the state and national averages for the NCLEX-RN for more than 12 years, as reported by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in the governor’s office.

“This is outstanding news to see that out of all Baccalaureate Degree state universities in Illinois, MCN has the highest pass rate,” said MCN Dean Judy Neubrander. “We had 157 students take the certification exam last year, which is one of the highest numbers we have had at MCN. Even though our enrollment has increased significantly throughout the years, the quality of education our students receive from MCN’s master teachers is by far one of the best in the state.”

Neubrander contributes the exceptional pass rate to the College Success Plan, which is coordinated by Cathi Kaesberg and Gail Petro, as well as the dedication of every faculty member.

“Part of our mission is to prepare nurses who will lead to improve health outcomes locally and globally, and these pass rates prove our graduates are well prepared. I am very proud of our students and faculty.”

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) recommends the NCLEX-RN pass rates for colleges to be 80 percent or higher, therefore, MCN has exceeded this benchmark for more than a decade.
