Honors
Richard Sullivan, SOC, has been selected for the Shaw Teaching Fellowship for his work with students, especially in terms of civic engagement and general education. Sullivan plans to use the funds to produce podcasts related to topics in SOC 106.

Exhibitions
Veda Rives, ART, has a solo exhibition of art created in collaboration with Meda Rives, BookEnviron: Judson­ – Artists’ Books as Shelter, Escape, Epiphany; Shaping Our Space, Our Thoughts, and Our Aspirations at the David and Betty Draewell Gallery of Art of Judson University in Elgin, Illinois. The show continues through March 17, concluding with an artists’ lecture and reception.

Publications
Maureen Brunsdale, Milner, guest-edited an issue of Bandwagon, which focused on the rich circus history in Bloomington, Illinois. For the issue, Steve Gossard, Milner, wrote the article “The Greatest Show on Earth: The YMCA of Bloomington, Illinois” in Bandwagon; and Mark Schmitt, Milner, wrote the article “Arms Race in Lace: Erma Ward, Lillian Leitzel and the One Arm Plunge.”

Daniel Cochece Davis, COM, and Sandra Metts, COM emeritus, were two of the authors of the chapter “Surf’s up: Communicative aspects of online trust-building among Couchsurfing hosts,” appearing in the book Establishing and Evaluating Digital Ethos and Online Credibility.  Davis also co-authored the article “Proposing the Communicate Bond Belong Theory: Evolutionary intersections with episodic interpersonal communication” for Communication Theory.

Sue Franzen, Milner, co-authored the article “Merging Information Literacy and Evidence-Based Practice in an Undergraduate Health Sciences Curriculum Map” for Communications in Information Literacy.

Tom Gerschick, SOC, authored “Invisibility, Visibility, Vilification, and Near Silence: The Framing of Disability in the Early Years of the American Sociological Society,” for Research in Social Science and Disability.

Sally Parry, ENG, published “It Can’t Happen Here: Sinclair Lewis and the Challenge to Democracy in Signature. 

Eric Wesselmann, PSY, co-authored “Social cues establish expectations of rejection and affect the response to being rejected” for Group Processes & Intergroup Relations.
