Illinois State University is the No. 1 destination for transfer students in Illinois. Transfer students now have a new registered student organization (RSO) on campus to help ease their transition to campus life called Transfer Redbirds, created just this year by transfer student Kimberly Butler.

A native of Palatine, Butler went to Harper College for her first two years and received her Associate in Arts before deciding to transfer to Illinois State to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business.

“As a transfer student, it can be hard to make friends during the first week of school. That’s why I started Transfer Redbirds,” said Butler, president of the RSO. “This is a good way for transfer students to have an immediate connection to the school by finding friends when arriving on campus. My main goal of this RSO is to help transfer students make meaningful connections on campus and have fun!”

Transfer Redbirds has a Facebook page that all transfer students, current and new, can request to join. Incoming students can become members and begin meeting people before they arrive to campus this fall. Current transfer students can join this Facebook group and participate in upcoming group socials and events. The group will have its first event in April, a social and trip to the Gamma Phi Circus on April 7. Students interested in participating can indicate interest on the Transfer Redbirds Facebook page:
