Nisi Sturgis

This summer Sturgis will light up the Ewing stage during the Illinois Shakespeare Festival’s 2017 season with her portrayal of Imogen, daughter of King Cymbeline, in Shakespeare’s Amazing Cymbeline. She will play opposite her real-life husband, Jordan Coughtry, who will portray her husband Posthumus. Both Sturgis and Coughtry are returning to the festival after playing principal roles during ISF’s 2013 season.

Chris Coleman’s masterful adaptation Shakespeare’s Amazing Cymbeline is an acrobatic, circus-themed production with only five actors and a piano-playing musician performing all the roles. Cymbeline’s kingdom is on the verge of a war. His brave son-in-law decides to leave the safe surroundings of the castle, and the virtuous Imogen, to lead troops to protect the border. As time passes, Imogen increasingly laments being apart from her beloved husband and the treacherous Iachimo, on a bet, attempts to seduce her and bring disgrace to the family. Thomas Quinn plays Imogen’s father King Cymbeline.

Cymbeline is one of Shakespeare’s most fantastical plays, making it a perfect fit for our magical 40th anniversary!
