Joe Rice earned his Certificate of Specialized Instruction in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning this semester. He was one of eleven graduate students from ten disciplines and four colleges at ISU who completed a series of workshops designed to explore research outside their disciplines. The program focused on scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and required working with a mentor to plan a SoTL project. Associate Professor Michaelene Cox served as Joe’s mentor.

His project addressed the question, Does distribution of “Little Blue Books” in vocational sectors of college localities affect graduate student perception of working class literacy and intellectual lifestyle? The CSI-SoTL program was co-sponsored by ISU’s Graduate School and Cross Endowed Chair in SoTL. A reception was held in April 2017 in recognition of accomplishments by graduate student participants.

Joe was also recognized with the Outstanding Graduate Student Service award at the Annual Politics and Government Spring Awards Luncheon.
