In her first appearance at the NCAA Regional, Illinois State freshman gymnast Gabrielle Cooke recorded a top-20 finish on the floor exercise.

The Chicago native performed a solid routine and scored a 9.825 to finish in a tie for 17th place overall along with a trio of gymnasts from Auburn. Fellow freshman MyKayla Skinner of Utah won the event with a score of 9.950, followed by five gymnasts in a tie for second place with scores of 9.900.

Cooke ended her spectacular debut season for the Redbirds at the NCAA Regional. She previously earned First-Team All-Midwest Independent Conference honors on the floor and vault at the championship meet, with a conference title-winning effort on the floor. Cooke topped the leaderboard with a career-high score of 9.925 on floor and finished second overall on the vault with a score of 9.850. She also earned Second-Team All-MIC plaudits, after finishing fourth in the all-around competition with a total of 38.875.
