Chair and University Professor Ali Riaz was interviewed by the Dhaka Courier, the leading news weekly of Bangladesh. Riaz spoke about the One Belt One Road–China’s New Silk Road project–and its implications for Bangladesh.

“Decisions based on immediate political gains or ad-hoc measures will be immensely harmful.”

Riaz argued that while the OBOR offers opportunities for connectedness to other states as well as investment, a lack of transparency and human rights violations should also be considered. He concludes that “long-term interests of the country should dictate the nature, scope and degree of engagement; decisions based on immediate political gains or ad-hoc measures will be immensely harmful.”
