Over 12,000 alumni donated, including 1,444 first-time alumni donors, both record-setting numbers.

“These numbers are a testament to the life-long impact of receiving an education at Illinois State University,” said President Larry Dietz. “We are honored that so many of our alumni and friends recognize the value of Illinois State. The generosity and continued support is inspiring and we are grateful for the private resources committed to advance the ISU experience.”

Part of Illinois State’s fundraising success included initiatives like Giving Tuesday, a day of philanthropy in which alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends gave nearly $600,000 to support areas across campus.

Other fundraising highlights from 2017 include:

  • $6.4 million in scholarship support;
  • $14.1 million in cash received to benefit academic and university programs, a record fiscal year amount; and
  • A record-setting total of $5.3 million secured for the College of Fine Arts.

“The giving momentum at Illinois State is encouraging,” notes Vice President for University Advancement Pat Vickerman. “The number of donors and level of private support reflects the enthusiasm and confidence our donors have in our students, faculty, and staff. Every gift truly makes a difference and we appreciate each and every one.”

Because of fiscal year 2017 fundraising efforts, 36 new endowed scholarships were created and a total of 2,072 scholarships were awarded.

The Illinois State University Foundation is the preferred channel for private gift support to the University. The ISU Foundation manages the University endowment that has grown to more than $112.6 million.

“This year almost $3.8 million from the endowment was used to provide scholarships and support faculty, programs, and facilities,” said ISU Foundation Board of Directors Chairman Eric Burwell ’90. “Illinois State University is strong and on a positive trajectory thanks to outstanding leadership; talented students, faculty, and staff; and because of the generous support coming from our alumni and friends.”
