The School of Information Technology has hired two new faculty members from opposite sides of the subcontinent. Our new professors will bring literally a world of experience to our students.
IT has a new major and has hired its first faculty member expressly for that Cybersecurity major. Her name is Yousra Javed and she has just completed a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She received her a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the National University of Science and Technology in Islamabad, Pakistan. Her research focus has been in usable security and privacy. She will be teaching security courses as well as some web programming. Javed is committed to helping minorities and underrepresented students. To this end she has volunteered with girl scouts, Inspiring Girls Now in Technology Evolution (IGNITE), and other organizations and events.
IT has also hired Suman Saha for the computer science program. His specialty is finding bugs in software or in binary code, especially those that lead to system security holes. He received a Ph.D. from the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie/INRIA, Paris, France. His doctoral work won the William C. Carter Award 2013 for making an important contribution to the field of dependable computing. He earned his master’s degree from Hanyang University, Ansan, South Korea and his bachelor’s degree from Premier University, Chittagong, Bangladesh. He has completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University and Pennsylvania State University. Saha brings his global teaching experience to Normal. He will be primarily programming and data structure courses in the computer science program as well the new Secure Software Development elective available to both cybersecurity and computer science majors.
