Students of color on predominantly white college campuses often face unique difficulties and challenges while navigating a university setting. The Student of Color process group (SOCPG) at Illinois State University provides a safe and supportive space for students of color to make sense of and give voice to the wide range of concerns.

This group is designed to provide a space for students to openly engage in dialogues around issues and concerns related to what it means to be a student of color on a predominantly white campus. The dialogue occurs in a therapeutic environment with qualified therapists facilitating the group process.

Central themes discussed include but are not limited to: academic concerns, family & romantic relationships, sexism, racism, micro-aggressions, imposter syndrome, stereotype threat, self-awareness, self-esteem, emotional health issues and other stressors related to being a person of color at Illinois State University.

Group members will also have an opportunity to provide and receive feedback related to how others experience them within the group context. Students can call Student Counseling Services at (309) 438-3655 to make an assessment appointment, or stop by room 320 of the Student Services Building.
