Social activist Beverly Gooden will speak on domestic violence at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 14, in Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center. The event is free and organized by the University Program Board.

Beverly Gooden is a well-known speaker, storyteller, and creator of a viral Twitter movement #WhyIStayed. The movement was later made into a short film by the same name, where Gooden was featured. Her on-air appearances include Good Morning America, the Dr. Phil Show, Inside Edition, CNN, NPR, and NBC Nightly News. Gooden has also contributed original content featured in Time, The New York Times, and the Today Show online among others.

Gooden is a recipient of the 2015 Inspire A Difference “Everyday Hero” award, and has also been featured in several magazines including Essence Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Redbook Magazine, and likewise.
