Alison Lehman, a first-year graduate student in the clinical-counseling psychology program, is a 2017 graduate of Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where she completed a B.S. in psychology and a minor in Spanish. As an undergraduate student, Lehman was the president of Psi Chi- National Honor Society for Psychology, and a member of Delta Sigma Nu Honor Society and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She received the Joseph Runkel award for academic success in psychology her senior year.

As an undergraduate, Lehman worked as a writing assistant, English subject tutor, and research assistant. She studied abroad for a month in Costa Rica for a culture class and traveled to Sicily for 10 days for a writing course. She also completed a course at Rogers Memorial Hospital where she gained hands-on training related to assessment, therapy and inpatient units. This experience helped her realize she wanted to pursue a career in clinical psychology.

“I am still thinking about possible career options after graduating from Illinois State,” Lehman said. “I am thinking of continuing my education for a Ph.D. in clinical psychology or receiving my license to become a LCPC and open my own practice.”

The Illinois State University Foundation Fellowship is awarded to three doctoral and three master’s level students each year. To be considered for this award, applicants must demonstrate a potential for academic success at the graduate level, having attained a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale, among other qualifications.
