U.S. News & World Report declared Illinois State University as one of the best public universities in the nation in the annual higher education rankings, placing 83rd in the country for public universities.

Illinois State demonstrated its level of excellence in subcategories of the report, with 32 percent of classes with fewer than 20 students, even with several years of record-breaking enrollment. Illinois State maintained a high graduation rate of 72 percent, which far exceeds the national rate of around 60 percent.

In recent years, the University has consistently ranked within the top 100 in the country. “Though we know that rankings are only a small piece of the Illinois State story, the report reaffirms that our excellence is celebrated by more than Redbird family and friends,” said Illinois State President Larry Dietz. “This ranking is simply a reminder that we are a leader in public education.”

U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on factors such as undergraduate peer assessment scores that are from high school counselors as well as college and university presidents, provosts, and deans of admissions. Other factors include student retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and graduation rate performance.
