University Professor Ali Riaz was interviewed by UNB, a national news wire service of Bangladesh, on the proposal put forward by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at the UN General Assembly. The interview was published on September 24 in the Daily Star in an article titled “Hasina’s proposals very positive.”

The Prime Minister wants an end to the violence and safe zones in Myanmar for the Rohingya population, as well as a return and repatriation of the refugees to their homes. Riaz found the proposal to be mostly positive, noting that “there is a clear consensus among the international community on two points — immediate cessation of the violence in Rakhine State, and durable political solution to the crisis.”
